A Male hand pours a red Georgia Pom-Pom cocktail into a stemless martini glass

Georgia Pom-Pom Cocktail

Print RecipeMy husband enjoys creating new cocktails for me to enjoy and he certainly hit the mark on this one!  I prefer my cocktails sweet and I do not prefer to taste the alcohol so give me juice and spike it with vodka and I’m good to go!  Kevin’s Georgia Pom-Pom Cocktail is the perfect mix of sweet and tart with a kick!

What’s In It

pomegranate seedsPomegranate Juice

Here’s the deal, I like to use pomegranate juice in a lot of my recipes, like my Solar Sauce (healthy alternative to 1000 Island) so we usually always have it on hand.  Pomegranate juice is a very healthy juice that has more antioxidants than red wine or green tea.  Having 40% of the recommended value of Vitamin C, it’s also loaded with vitamin E, K, Folate, and Potassium making it an immune-boosting superstar.  Pomegranate juice reduces inflammation throughout the gut and body, preventing oxidative stress and damage.  But the big perk for me was how it has Flavonols to block inflammation due to osteoarthritis and cartilage damage.

Vodka

Let’s talk about vodka.  I’m not much of a hard liquor gal so vodka works for me because it is odorless and tasteless.  Having to shake my head and getting the heebee jeebee’s after taking a sip is not my idea of a good time.   I favor cocktails that do not have the odor and taste of the hard liquor included, preferably mixed with a sweet juice.  This is why Kevin created the Georgia Pom-Pom Cocktail for me.  There are other benefits of vodka but, really folks, I will not try to justify drinking hard liquor by saying its less calories, can help relax you, or is heart healthy.  There are WAY more healthy ways to achieve these goals.

Peach Schnapps

Personally, I think peach schnapps should be a staple item when it comes to your liquor cabinet.  It’s such a versatile liqueur and can be used for cocktails like Fuzzy Navels, “Spiked” Peach Tea, Sex On The Beach, and many, many martini style drinks.  Something to note is that there is a difference between Peach Schnapps and Peach Liqueur.  Schnapps are fermented and distilled while liqueurs are fruits steeped in a alcohol which has already been fermented and distilled.

Short martini glass

I really like these low profile, Cosmopolitan Martini glasses.  The run about $5 each so very cost effective.  Plus, they’re much easier to hold than the tall, delicate ones so less spillage and they simply fit into the dishwasher top rack without the tall stems to deal with.

Another nice piece to use is a cocktail shaker.  Click here to see one very similar to Kevin’s.

  • 2 Cups Ice

  • 3 ounces Peach Schnapps
  • 4 ounces Pomegranate Juice

Instructions

  • Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, cover, and shake for 15-20 seconds to allow ice to make the ingredients cold without watering it down.

Notes

If you do not have a cocktail shaker, you can use a tall glass with ice and stir vigorously.  Use a strainer to pour cocktail into martini glasses to hold ice back.
If desired, you can use super fine sugar to rim the glass before pouring the cocktail in.
